As promised, here is a further update on the cards I obtained today from the 1980 Topps Burger King set. Six players (including Fred Lynn) have already been featured on this blog. They are: Ron LeFlore (Expos), Vida Blue (Giants), Bruce Sutter (Cubs), J.R. Richard (Astros) and Julio Cruz (Mariners).
First lets look at the cards that are completely different than their 1980 base set issue:
Ron Leflore, pictured here with the Expos. This is as close to a "Traded" card as we will see in the 1980 set along with his regular issue with the Tigers. LeFlore's signature on the card is straight across as opposed to the first name on top of the last on the regular card:
Vida Blue, pictured on the Burger King card with a head shot. Blue's signature is similar to LeFlore's in that it is straight across. It looks like it could have been taken the same day as the regular 1980 issue:
Next, we have a card that is the same photo as the 1980 base card, but zoomed in. The Bruce Sutter card is essentially the same, but slightly zoomed.
Lastly, there are two cards with no change at all from the base card. First, J.R. Richard:
And finally Julio Cruz. At we now know that the line behind Julio does have an end that you don't see in the base card:
