I couldn't remember what year it was, but I remembered that Skip Lockwood replaced him on the mound. What I remember most is the look on Jim Rice's face when Zimmer called him in from left. I was only 8, but this has always stuck with me.Tonynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5129825817358907805.post-34020218707958608802009-08-26T22:19:30.149-04:002009-08-26T22:19:30.149-04:00Great post and comment.
Sidenote #1-A few players ...Great post and comment.
Sidenote #1-A few players did both catch and pitch, although none of them did so as their regular position.
Sidenote #2-Situations like Burgmeier playing the outfield alwwys intrigued me as a kid. I kept asking if you could get a Win and a Save in the same game. This was before I could go online and check actual MLB rules, which state that you cannot.Johngyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18416011578421652629noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5129825817358907805.post-31121058618178788372009-08-26T09:45:28.615-04:002009-08-26T09:45:28.615-04:00A few things about Mike Ryba... George Uhle is the only other pitcher since 1900 to have gone behind the plate in a game. Ryba also was named player-manager of Springfield in the Cardinals Organization in 1934, leading the team to the division crown. He also went 12-3 on the hill that year, as well as hitting .327 behind the plate. It was after this season that he finally made it to the Show.GrandSlamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00750197056850854861noreply@blogger.com
